Raised and educated in Texas, Ann Walker began her career as a stained glass artist. Ten years in that field developed her sense of color, line and texture as design elements. Today she creates mixed media images based on a lifetime of assigned meaning to bits of color and texture. Multiple layers of papers and glazes combine to represent accumulated memories. Working with a muted metallic palette, Walker creates non-representational artwork with a contemporary appeal based on the contrasts of shadow and surface texture enhanced with gold and silver leaf.
“My paintings are more narrative than not, even when the story isn’t evident. With each new image I strive to create something fresh that is anchored in the past.”
